In a day dominated by the Indian batsmen, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja showed their prowess with the bat to put India in a commanding position at the end of day one of the first Test against Bangladesh.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India got off to a shaky start losing opener Shubman Gill early on. However, Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli steadied the ship with a 68-run partnership before Kohli fell to a brilliant catch by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Rohit Sharma then joined Pujara at the crease and the duo put on a 64-run stand before Pujara was dismissed for 54. Ashwin, who came in at number six, played a crucial innings, scoring his sixth Test century and forming a brilliant partnership with Jadeja.
Jadeja, known for his all-round capabilities, showed his batting prowess with a gritty knock as the duo put on 104 runs for the sixth wicket. By the end of the day, Jadeja remained unbeaten on 40, with Wriddhiman Saha giving him company on 5.
India will look to build on their strong batting performance on day two, while Bangladesh will be hoping to take early wickets to put pressure on the hosts.
