In South Korea, celebrities are held to high standards of conduct.

Lee had a clean public image before reports emerged about her alleged drug use. While her reputation took a considerable hit from the investigations, fans still mourned her untimely death.

Speaking to journalists at the end of October, just before going to the police station for questioning, Lee had said, "I am sincerely apologetic for being entangled in such an unfortunate incident that has disheartened many people, especially my family, who are enduring such difficult pain at this moment."

She was dropped from a mystery TV series that began shooting in October. According to reports, some businesses removed posters and advertisements featuring Lee from their stores.

Drug-related offenses, especially those linked to marijuana use, are considered serious crimes in South Korea. Those caught using marijuana may face imprisonment for up to five years.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has vowed to take strict measures against drug-related offenses. This year, the country's authorities have intensified efforts against drug crimes, with the National Police Agency committing to a "total war" against drug offenses.

Lee is the only South Korean celebrity recently investigated for drug use. Earlier this month, K-pop star G-Dragon was cleared of allegations of drug use after a week of investigation.

Actress Yoo Ah-in is currently facing legal battles over drug use allegations.
