Hello and welcome to live coverage of the first day of the Boxing Day Test match between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne.
Pakistan maintained momentum after the break despite a brief rain break. Marnus Labuschagne survived two lbw appeals but Smith could not save himself. At this point, Marnus Labuschagne is in control of his innings, and is expected to form a strong partnership with the tailenders when Pakistan take the new ball, look to swing and hope for quick wickets.
The Boxing Day Test match has started well. Both parties are happy at the moment. Pakistan asked Australia to bat first, and once again the veteran duo of Usman Khawaja and David Warner got off to a great start. The ball swung both ways but Australia maintained discipline while batting, although Warner attempted a big drive and was caught at slip. Pakistan set up a strong slip cordon and were able to successfully slip David Warner in a wide drive attempt. Pakistan kept up the pressure, but the Australian batting held steady, and with a solid launch-pad from the openers, the next session began on a bright note.
